An epidemic of bad manners....does it really matter?
Cell phones go off; loud conversations interrupt in mid conversation, movies and plays; foul language is rampant; trash is thrown on the side of the street; people fail to show for appointments; cars go through quiet neighborhoods with music blaring; people fail to yield for pedestrians and cars; people fail to hold doors for the elderly; road rage is on the upswing; leaders we expect to be responsible fail to represent us; on and on.
Here's the million dollar question. What do we do to contribute to all this. Do we expect others to follow what we do not follow? Have you ever flicked someone the bird, cut a person off in line or traffic? Do you model politeness and temperance? Do you pick up your trash; shut off your cell phone in inappropriate areas or talk loudly on your cell phone disregarding others? Are you respectful and demonstrate good manners even in difficult times? Have you ever spread malicious gossip and found yourself doing exactly the things you hate to see from others?
Our world starts with what we do and how we treat others. Many times we are not aware how much of our freedom and liberty depends on basic civility. The law merely provides a framework within which the spirit of a civilized person has to flourish. Our rights as a free citizen cease to have meaning once enough of us fail to honor our parallel responsibilities.
Children learn from their parents and watching adults. Children need role models to show them respect not only personal freedoms, but the rights of others to enjoy theirs. Civility is at the core of what it means to enjoy the fruits of independence. The Diggers Story Podcast Show dedicates this episode to liberty and civility.

What's this? Digger bringing another Diggers Story podcast a day early... now what gives? Last week's podcast stired up quite a hornet's nest with the podcast listeners. Some listeners claim Digger is against the president and pro peace and others are upset he is for the president and pro war. How can there be two conflicting extreme accusations all from one podcast? Needless to say Digger is confused and is asking for the podcast audience help and support.
Pootz is on vacation for another week and she's not going to be a happy camper when she gets back.
